6′ wonder, freeze comebacks, Bonnie’s Greenhouse
I guide the measuring magnetic tape to this one . 6 feet !
It’sAngelica pachycarpa , once a tiny little matter . In recent years , it ’s bloomed , attract all kinds of insects .
It fills a space under the Chinese pistache from late fall until June or so , when it hook back underground , exit a naked gap underneath . But it ’s such a showstopper all wintertime that I do n’t mind . By this year , the upcoming plumbagos may be quick to fling their branches over its impermanent graveyard . It suffered just a shade when we hit 10º , but obviously not much . I sheer off the damaged leaves and it just go on on growing .

before long , we ’ll also say goodby to our larkspur . I contrive to amass seeds of this threefold that seeded itself in the grass from last year ’s crop .
My lazy way to do this is to draw them out and upturn them in a 5 - gallon bucket ( every nurseryman needs a large ole ’ bucketful ! ) . When the bottom is shroud in seeds , I toss the ick into the compost pile and scoop out the seeds . When I ’ve got a few special one , I just cut off the heads and dump them into plastic container . Oh yea , label your baggie / nursing bottle / jar with the date , too . Countless multiplication , I have n’t done it because “ I ’ll remember what that source is . ” Sure , Linda , sure .
To my great surprisal , the Asiatic lily , Lilium ‘ Linda ’ come back in the crape seam . Every single one !

This was one of my experiment fromBrent & Becky ’s Bulbslast year . How could I stand this colouring and a flora with my name ? They made it through drought and a duty period from 100º to 10º. Guess it really is a “ Linda . ”
Of course , so did theSalvia guaraniticaand my day lily of no name .
Another freeze survivor was theSalvia microphylla‘La Trinidad Pink ’ .

I got it fromSchumacher ’s Hill Country Gardenslast November , so it had n’t even grown past its root word bollock . It remain evergreen all winter . Mine ’s in dayspring sun , good afternoon refinement .
My Tawny day lily piece up the orange theme in the den bed . Remember , this weekend is theAustin Daylily Show & Sale and home garden tour .
This week on CTG , get more ideas for coloring material , herb , and succulent combination in container or beds . Tom meets with Sandra Killough fromBonnie ’s Greenhouse in Waco . start up in 1981 by Bonnie Murphy , she made a report for stout previous roses and day lily , many of them hard to get at the time . A few year ago , recollective - time employee Sandra grease one’s palms Bonnie ’s to continue its reputation for hardy “ quondam - fashioned ” plants that are the Modern fashion : lasting plant . Get her CTG tilt .

She brought along Cuban pot marjoram ( Plectranthus amboinicus ) , one that I really wish in a pot . you’re able to develop it in the ground , but it ’s not cold hardy . Last year , it grew like a fiend on my front porch . This year , I move it another green goddess for the patio . I care to let in it in pasta dishes , but I also like its refreshing color and fragrance . It ’s done well for me with shade and a few hr of sun .
