When I endure in New England , we made autumn excursions to the orange and ruddy hills of Vermont and New Hampshire . On the west coast , we get lost in corn mazes . Cooler temperatures signify that it ’s no longer summertime , but the season still beckons us outside with fields of fiery - colored abundance . And in Japan , October is no unlike . Just outside Tokyo is a flower parkland that blooms vivid in autumn . The hills are covered withKochia scoparia(syn . Bassia scoparia ) , a Eurasian aboriginal annual shrub whose vernacular names are , appropriately , Mexican firebrush , fireball , or burningbush . Kochialeaves and stems turn from dark-green to bright Red River in October .

flush festivals and bloom parks are not uncommon in Japan , where cherry blossom gardens bloom in April & May , and chrysanthemums ( kiku ) are celebrate in October & November . Many heyday park are designed to offer a year - round of drinks variety of blooms , but , in many , the vividness has pass off by now . Not so at Hitachi Seaside Park , a popular flower common just outside Tokyo , whereKochiabushes are presently displaying their good drop colors . The George Bush is noted for its autumn reds , which intensify as the plant ’s chlorophyll fades for the time of year . They are bright red through end of October , when the parking lot closes . The parkland cover 153 hectacres , and is tightlipped to the Pacific seacoast . Visitors can walk the park through its hills , with the nearby sea coming in and out of view .

The flowers in Hitachi Park vary with the season : daffodil and tulip in the bounce , blueNemophilaand roses in the summertime . In early autumn , the macrocosm begin to bloom — a predecessor toKochia . By October , the landscape is filled with some 30,000 redKochiabushes , and a couple million pink and white cosmos flowers .

Kochia’svalue is n’t specify to its autumn color . While its pubic hair form is known as burningbush , its come are call " field caviar . " They are prepared as a solid food garnish calledtonburi , and considered a treat in Japan ’s Akita prefecture .
