Eze. The Exotic Garden.
One of the most outstanding sight on the Cote d’Azur is from the mound top townsfolk of Eze . It is situated between Nice and Monaco . From here you face down on Cap Ferrat and on a exonerated mean solar day you could see Corsica . The bird of Jove ’s nest of the ancient fortress which is now in ruins is alight 429 metre above ocean level . The story goes there was once a temple to Isis here ramp up by the Phoenicians .
Now there is an exotic garden with footmark and paths cleave precariously to the rock face . It was built after the warfare but it was brought up to engagement in 2004 . It must have been a gigantic job carrying up bags of boulder and rocks and then terracing the site . The works are mostly succulents ; Cacti , Agaves and Euphorbia . These are plants suited to the baking , south- facing rocks . This is one of the most salient sites for a garden I have ever see .
Throughout this wonderful garden you find earth goddesses , the work of the sculptor Jean - Philippe Richard . This seems so appropriate for a site that was dedicated toIsis , the great Egyptian goddess . These mystical figures stand watch , watching over the garden . Some of them gaze mysteriously out to sea . Each is name and keep company by a short poem .

If like Reginald Farrer you palpate you are turning into a ‘ white - eyed troglodyte ’ in the grim wintertime calendar month this is the place to be . Provence has had far more rain than usual this wintertime but there are still plenty of strong days like the one last week when these photographs were accept . Blue sky , sun , watch crystal -clear air and a turquoise ocean . Heaven !

Wow ! I think that this is one garden I would rather confab good manners of a blog than in person Chloris simply because I would have to keep my middle closed if I were there . Heights and I do n’t get on well at all 😦 What vivid sculpture which much complement the alien planting . I can almost breath in the ocean airwave from here 🙂
Oh that look splendid Chloris . I can feel the warmth from your pictures .
Beautiful views and great exposure , Chloris ! I ’m glad you had an opportunity to get away from that deluge of rain !

What a wonderful Charles William Post , how lovely to see a little sunshine and a exonerated down sea . I just enjoy the mystical figure watching over the garden and gazing out to sea . What an interesting blog you have.xxx
I see that Isis was among other things the patroness of nature so a garden setting would be most appropriate for her statue . I calculate up the Greenwich Village and take some of the other poems . I like the “ ou presque ” in “ Suivez - moi jeune homme , et vous connaitrez tous mes secrets … ou presque ” .
