Gardening
I of late pruned a few shrubs in my garden , providing quite a pile of pruned stems .
In the yesteryear I might have tear up these , or if feeling time - poor I might even have stuck them in the green bin . This yr I have decided to make habit of these stems to work out a gardening job . I have a number of perennials that grow quite magniloquent , such as helenium and delphinium . These and their lankier ilk ask supporting or they may fall flat over and become unsightly . I have muddled along , make support using bamboo and string , or even some made from some steel rods . Of course , you may purchase wild plant supports but they are expensive , and often plastic , public enemy phone number one these 24-hour interval . The stems are going to become industrial plant support . I have in psyche a duo of different kinds . Type 1 is a circular grid on stilt , through which a tall perennial can originate . eccentric 2 is a dome shape , through which a low - growing works such as a geranium or potentilla could grow . Type 1

Select two longish , bendy stems . I started by bending both to take form a circle , to contain that they would serve that use . Next I wander one stem round the other , just twist it around , so that I effectively have a plait made of two stems . This sometimes needed aid with a bit of cosmic string to hold it together . I then formed the plait into a circuit , and either wove the arse closing into the head ending , or more commonly , splice it off with some twine . This left me with a round , rough .
Like I say , roughly orbitual …
Next I cut back some lengths of reasonably hardy stem and thread them across the diam of the circle , tucking the ends through between the woven stem forming the circumference .

I repeated this on the diagonals .
As I add stems , I noticed that it became more unmanageable to thread them through , as there was less and less give in the orbitual stems . By this stage , it was also possible to “ encourage ” a more circular form as the crossing - stems held it in place .
The last tone was to tot up a couple more stems across the Mexican valium to make more of a control grid .

I cut back off the stem ends so just an inch or so protruded .
To make this useful , I will need to add some vertical ramification . I think I will just use bamboo canes as I have used all the shrub pruning , and anyway they ’ll be a bit stronger . I mean I will be able-bodied to jam the legs between the shank in the outer circle , but failing that I ’ll just tie them on with garden twine . The first one was a bit fiddly but I presently got the hang of it – I made quite a heap of these .
Type 2 .

A noggin configuration for lower grow plants . I ’ll say up front that this was less successful on first flush . I adjudicate to make more of the first type , but on reflection this was fine and will be useful too .
If I was making another , I would follow the first step for the Type 1 , make a roofy out of two woven stems . Then I would weave the stem through as per the painting above , bending them into an approximation of a domed stadium , four or five stem in total . My thought was to get out a good substructure of prow sticking out so they can be jammed in the earth more or less vertically . Looking at the picture now , I might tot up another lap half room up the noggin , just to mould more of a power grid shape .
The end result is I have just one dome and about ten of the circlular grid . I project the circular single can do a similar aim to the bonce , I ’ll just apply shorter legs . I could do with another ten or fifteen of these , but need more shank . I ’ll be declare oneself to rationalise shrub in neighbouring gardens ! Or ( genius ! ) this is the universe tell apart me I require more bush .

The observant among you will note that some stems are red cornu base . To head off rooting , I will tape up the stem ends .
I ’ll be back soon with more garden stuff and nonsense ‘ n stuff and nonsense .
