This preceding weekend Joe and I get on the dogs and drove up to the luxuriant Green Mountains of Vermont for a bit a rest , relaxation and cheese . On the style up we stopped by Tom and Bennetts farm , Tom happens to not only be the event ’s personal digital assistant but also is the executive director of the Vermont Cheese Council . This was the seventh Annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival and if you have n’t been , mark off it on your calendar for next twelvemonth – that is , if you make out high mallow , wine , craft beer , chocolate , dearest , and just about anything that come from the earth or a kitchen in Vermont . The surprisal for me was were this even was held -the salient ground of Shelburne Farms in Shelburne Vermont .

Before I go any further – I have to share with you the localisation of this event , for that alone is worth a post .
The positioning could n’t be more stunning , the event is hold atShelburne Farms , – a non profit education organization place of a camp that is 1,400 Akko working farm , first and National Historic Landmark . Shelburne Farms is dedicate to cultivate a conservation ethic for a sustainable time to come . Located on the shores of Lake Champlain on a farm and estate construct in 1886 with spectacular views create but he landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead , Sr who created the conceptual purpose for the grand landscape .
The architecture perhaps even outlines the landscape vistas with edifice grit barns design by the prominent designer Robert H. Robertson who design the Farm Barn a Breeding Bard and a spectacular Coach Barn as well as the Shelburne house itself . This rarefied family mansion house and working farm once the home of Dr. William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb ( yeah , those Vandebilt ’s ) was renown even then for its innovative practices . The site is such as treasure , and deserving inflict or dining at if you are ever in northern Vermont .

This cheese fete commence when Allison Hooper and Bob Reese of Vermont Creamery bedevil a party at Shelburne Farms , inviting their fellow cheeseflower makers to observe their collective succeeder in putting Vermont of the map as the “ Napa Valley of Cheese . ” Today , Vermont has more Malva sylvestris makers per head than any other state , and more than 40 of them came together at this years ’ festival at Shelburne Farms .
With more than 200 Malva sylvestris that we could taste as well as purchase , as well as tons of artisan food , local wine-coloured and Vermont - made beer and purport , we spent many 60 minutes – I did find some favorites however . Barr Hill vodka ( acquire by Caledonia spirit the right way on Barr Hill , in Hardwick , Vermont ) which Joe and I ‘ tested ’ in rather obscene volumes the Nox before , was just one that I bask . This Vodka – well , hear – I ’m one of those guy wire who just bribe fancy Vodka consider that cheep Vodka burns ones throat ? – I ’m not certain if any vodka tastes any different from scratch alcohol , but I want to “ trust ” that some of it does . Barr Hill Vodka was so smooth , that I first note it to Joe before I recognize that he spent a pretty penny on that first martini ( and the 2nd , and the third ) . Considering that now 8 hours later at 10 in the morning and I am sipping it once again ( hey , I was “ testing ” it – that ’s all . And – I was on a 2 day vacation , OK ? ) , I detect that I had to buy a bottle . Thankfully , I did n’t have to – Joe already did .
