Bold hardy fuchsia blooms battle for attention with sensational fall foliage in this PNW garden
Hi GPODers !
Today , we ’re back in the garden of Lila Johnson . She most recently shared some exposure of her garden in summer ( Lila ’s Colorful Containers in WashingtonandThe Rest of Lila ’s Wonderful Washington Garden ) , and now we get to see how it ’s faring in fall . For even more fun , look into out what her fall garden looked like five class ago : fall in the Pacific Northwest .
Hello again from Mill Creek , WA , and my fall garden . We are finally getting some chillier conditions , in the crushed 40 ’s overnight and the leave are turning color . This morning I brave the chill and engage a sight of garden photos , something I do almost daily May - September !

We have removed some of our leggy annuals , but many geranium and some impatiens remain . My hubby cast moldable tarpaulin over part of our dry river seam areas to make leap sporting up easier ; I do n’t care the face of it , but he is my maintenance guy and since we are 81 and 80 years of eld , “ easier ” is a in force matter . The tarpaulin keep the vine maple(Acercircinatum , Zones 5–9)leaves and cedarwood needles out of the rocks . These areas are in our back and side grand , so we ’re the only ones who see them .
powerful now the “ star ” is the coral bark maple(Acer palmatum‘Sango Kaku ’ , Zones 5–8)in full yellow mode . We have it uplit at night and it sincerely is a wiz . And when the leafage are gone , that coral bark is incredible . I think the wintertime meter is my favorite metre for this Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , it stands out when all else is done for the season .
Ourhardy fuchsias(Fuchsia magellanica , Zones 6–9)are still endearing and attracting our class - round residentAnna ’s hummingbird . And to intend , I did n’t make love about hardy fuchsias until I join our local Garden Club in 2008 … they are truly a workhorse in our Pacific NW garden .

Enjoy the photos!Lila and Dave Johnson
Lila still has a pristine bluebigleaf hydrangeabloom ( Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 6–9 ) this lately in the time of year . Here the cayenne jasmine - blue shimmers against the darker evergreens that redact it .
A Full Moon Nipponese maple ( Acer japonicum , Zones 5–7 ) invest on a sensational exhibit of loss behind a glowing , gold threadleaf variety . The blooms in Lila ’s garden are sensational , but the foliage this fourth dimension of class is steal my attending .

A close up of that incredible Full Moon maple ’s leafage . The bright red becomes even pretty when you ’re able to see the pernicious spots of yellow-bellied and shift green - to - red and leaves below .
‘ Neon Tricolor ’ fuchsia(Fuchsia‘Neon Tricolor ’ , zone 7–9)—first twelvemonth .
Burgundy tips of ‘ Olsen ’s Frosted Strawberry ’ maple(Acer palmatum ‘ Olsen ’s Frosted Strawberry ’ , Zones 6–8 ) .

Seaside Serenade ® Fire Island hydrangea(Hydrangea macrophylla‘HORTFIRE ’ , Zones 4–9 ) . Flowers may have faded , but the fiery foliage gives this competently constitute hydrangea a second show .
Our three tower piss feature behind an nameless 28 - class - previous Nipponese maple .
At the start of this post , Lila mentioned the current star of the garden was her coral bark maple . You might have noticed that it did n’t make an show in any of the photos today . To properly showcase all of Lila ’s beautiful plants , we ’ll be back in the PNW tomorrow to see several photos of that beam coral bark maple as well as more scenes from her fall garden .
