Just over a week ago we went camping with some champion .
The idea was to hunt hogs – which failed . ( There ’s a screaming taradiddle in there , though , demand a rifle with a tricky safety and a close encounter with chupacabra – expect me about it sometime . ) What did n’t neglect , however , was my hunt for edible plant on what used to be a pine plantation .
Since the land had been dress many time with pines , then clearly slice , the metal money diversity was piteous . office were swampy and parts were flaxen . Overall , the stain was mostly pretty dampish – and wild blueberries were everywhere , undeterred by the land ’s monoculture past .

That shrub may not seem like much but it makes some very nice fruit and takes fundamentally no work to produce in your landscape gardening .
In fact , I have about a 12 or so in my baby’s room that are loaded with young yield . I ’m more than half tempted to just embed them all in my yard rather than betray them …
If you ’re skip to spot native Florida blueberries it ’s pretty easy to do at this time of year thanks to their distinctive blooms .

They count like little Bell and counterpoint quite nicely with bandaids and unsportsmanlike thumbnail .
( I totally cut myself with a machete . So there . What did you do with YOUR weekend ? depend it did n’t require chopping bit of Natalie Wood up for a rocket engine stove with a giant sharp blade , then missing and slicing into your finger’s breadth . That sort of experience makes life worth live . And serve fund Johnson & Johnson . )
tempestuous blueberry are all over the place once you know how to look .

If you see pine , start looking .
If you see pines and palmetto , you ’re unquestionably on the right-hand cart track .
If you see pines , palmetto , poison oak , spurge nettle and prickly pear … you ’re probably standing in a blueberry patch .

There are some calculate - a - likes , but they do n’t set berries . Our aboriginal blueberry have cousin-german that only make dry cum capsule … so if you notice the characteristic toll - shaped flowers and they are n’t later followed by berries , you ’ve likely plant one of blueberry ’s underachieving relatives .
Get out there and go hunting !
