Jason Helvenston ( UPDATE : his last name is haywire in the TV – it should be Helvenston , not Helvingston ) is my kind of guy . And his garden is beautiful . It ’s just not where code official think it should be .
count – everyone ’s belongings values have fallen through the floor here in FL … might as well get a lilliputian fraction back by growing food . Please – step up , Orlando , and do the “ green ” matter – corroborate local food production .

Incidentally , I ’ve been to the Ag extension service in Orlando and was very impressed with some of their forward-moving thinking . Then I see a story like this and just scratch my drumhead … we require to change our “ perfect and unproductive lawn ” thinking ASAP . Someone in metropolis government can facilitate Jason keep his garden – he ’s already get 200 signatures bear it !
Anyone ?

UPDATE : Here ’s the e - mail I just sent to Orlando ’s mayor :
Subject : A supplication on Behalf of Jason Helvington ’s GardenDear Mayor Dyer ,
Thank you for leading Orlando in these tough time .
I ’m a Master Gardener , Floridian and garden author in Marion county … I’ve bring sept and friends in Orlando and have tour your excellentAg . Extension . Orlando prides itself on being “ green , ” and I love you’vedone a peck to promote sustainable habit of solid ground .
Would you please step in and save the front - M garden of JasonHelvington ? I just saw this tidings tarradiddle and find it very disconcerting :
Many of us are really struggling with our terrible dimension values(houses in my region precipitate to a quarter of their “ boom ” note value a few yearsago ) and growing food aid take some of the pungency out . Respectfully , Ibelieve people like Jason should be advance to employ their land to feedthemselves . His neighbor love his little garden and it in truth makesOrlando await whole cutting edge . If the zone gameboard plows it under , it would be a crime ! There are few thing more beautiful than seeingfood spring up from the land in the thick of a suburbia . It reflectsresilience in the face of economic woes and should be encourage .
Thanks for your time – I beg you maltreat in . Grass wipe out resourceswithout yielding anything – gardens acquire much more than they deplete .
Please – for the sake of our future – go on over , see Jason , have afresh carrot or tomato … and save this lovely little plot . I assure – it ’ll seriously make you one of the coolest Mayors in the state .
All the best ,
David Goodman
