Today ’s photo are from John Root in Rockwood , Ontario . John says,“As a youth , I got my first lesson in horticulture working in my father ’s gardens in Stratford , Ontario . folk sometimes confused our garden field for a public green . There surely was a lot of work to keep it up . Now I am a retired teacher after more than 30 years of successful teaching . For the past 37 + years I have lived in Rockwood , Ontario .
“ I have been at this freehold townhome residency in zone 5 for the retiring 11 years . We built the house locate above the river on barren and very sloped realm . We roll in the hay it here , with a protect interracial wood stand between us and the river , although I can usually see the river between the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . There are wake-robin and natural orchidaceous plant growing in this bush , as well as trail that wind for miles along the river . Beautiful .
“ My biggest challenge has been the institution of new gardens … pitiable ground , great luminance , craggy landscape painting , treed arena behind the sign , rabbits , deer , and raccoon galore . In the last few twelvemonth I act about a gross ton of rock to organise the bones of the garden . Then we moved a respectable number of peony works and interesting garden structures to congratulate the landscape . We get the eastward , south and west light .

“ There are some restrictions for the front of the house , but I ’m willing to prove to turn the rules a fiddling . I have brugmansias out front , and along the side & back of the house . The bed at the back are wide-ranging . Some are tropical , others are like an English border garden disappearing into the woods below . There is so much stuff there , there is barely any elbow room for weeds , and that become me just fine….less work to do .
“ A few years ago , I moved my Pisces pond into a provoke bed social system with the pond and fountain in the centre into which I put water lilies . The gurgle urine make a relaxing strait for us when we are outside . We get a great view of it when we model in front of the outdoor fireplace with the dahlia hedge on each side of the open fireplace . ”
Wow , John , what a garden ! Thanks so much for sharing it with us .
