A cold climate doesn’t stop these gardeners
Today we ’re visiting Ed Elliott ’s garden . He and his married woman have a pocket-size yard and live in a inhuman clime with a very short growing time of year , but they have n’t let that stop them ! They make the most of their horticulture metre and space , filling the garden with a tremendous raiment of flowers .
To give you a sensation of the climatic challenges we cope with , I have included a photo of the entrance to our dwelling house last year , which is typical . In our Zone 4 clime we have 4 to 5 foot of snow each winter , which intend our earth is covered with snow for approximately five calendar month each year . Our annuals and perennials have to spring up quickly !
We have been living in our home for 45 old age , and most every plant you see has been put there by my wife and me , with the exception of the large pine tree diagram . I try out extensively with a variety of perennial , shrub , and trees with legion failures and occasional successes . I am successfully growing almost two dozen varieties of maples , including a trueAcerpalmatum‘Ozakazuki ’ .

Although our dimension is relatively minuscule , we have an incredible variety of soil types and sun picture . This allows us to enjoy everything from shade - love plants , sun - loving plant , moisture - loving flora , and even plants that screw poor , dry soil . Here ’s an detonation of people of colour for annuals and perennial in a sunny spot .
In a shady domain , genus Hosta , fern , and othershade - have intercourse perennialsgrow to profuse flawlessness .
