Dahlias are a bite of an fixation this year , but not all is go completely well with them . The 100 + dahlias which Joe and I purchase so eagerly this retiring winter , are all progressing but with mixed results . Raising dahlias for show is a completely unlike affair than raise dahlias for cut flowers . They are quite prone to insect damage , virus , rust fungus and fungus . There is daily disbudding to do , and endless staking and fertilizing . Joe ’s field out back is test to be too shady and boney , and even though my 60 or so plants near the nursery are doing well , they need almost daily watering since we are experiencing an epic drouth this twelvemonth .

In the veg garden , thing are doing much well , although , I now wish that I had devote more space to tomatoes than dahlias ! The collision this year are my new upgrade beds – the Elevated Cedar Planter Box – which I purchased at Vermont ’s Gardener ’s Supply Co. But more about those in a posterior series of posts – as I fell in love with that product last class – so much so , that I in reality wrote them , proposing that I would love to write about them more . Now , I have four .

Are you getting inundated with vegetables from your garden ? Tis the season for zucchini , tomato and cucumbers , not to cite beans , other summertime squashes and peppers . convey it on !
