Sweetcornmight just be the most American of all the vegetables , because Americans eat more of it than just about anyone else . Oh sure , clavus is grow all over the satellite these days , but most of that Zea mays is either grown to make Indian corn meal or it ’s grown for swear out plants that make syrups and the like . confuse ears of corn into a pot of boiling piss and eat them a few moment later is a pretty American ritual .

Here in Italy , it drive me sick that sweet corn does n’t show up in the vegetable food market anywhere but in Tuscany . The ease of Italy eats corn in the shape of polenta , which is like Zea mays - meal pudding .

The manikin of corn on the cob that show up every once in a while are these packages of precooked ear shown in today ’s pic . Sometimes , the corn in parcel comes from Israel , and other multiplication , from Spain . leftover , but the wellness - intellectual nourishment stores around here all lately welcome big deliveries of this package stuff , so my wife brought home a few for me . I ate two ears last week , and while the experience was gently pleasurable , it was nothing like the joy of eat a freshly cooked ear .

I am going to try out to grow more corn this year . peradventure I can regain space for two - dozen plants . I will acknowledge that my favorite path to consume ears of corn is to wolf them down raw while I ’m still standing in the vegetable garden . If it ’s good , right , sweet corn , it does n’t really even need the simmering , the butter or the saltiness and Madagascar pepper .

One of the job in growing sweet maize here is the fact that no identify varieties of sweet corn are sold . I can find , when I await punishing , seed mailboat labeledmais dolce(sweet corn whisky ) , but there are no Silver Queens or bantam to be found .
