Well , it ’s finally starting to get cold down here in North Texas ( if you weigh temperatures in the 30 ’s cold ) . Some field of the state got their first snowfall of the year this week ( let in Houston of all places ! ) .
I had rescue a couple of maverick tomato works that had sprout on their own from fallen Lycopersicon esculentum in belated summer . I moved them into mass so I could bring them inside during the winter in the hope of keeping them active . I had purchased some Wall O ’ Water plant protectors but never tried them out . It was at this point I had the makings of a “ cool ” experiment . I ’ve been wanting to utilize these in my garden for years but never got around to it . My two tomato plant step up to the collection plate and volunteered .

I knew we were gon na get some cool conditions this past week ( C. P. Snow forecasted for Friday ) , so I had a golden chance to see how beneficial these things really were .
I set them up and fulfil them with water . Unless you have multiple arms , this was a job . I discovered a thaumaturgy , however . Tapping in three wooden stakes to hold it up allow me to fill the chambers with body of water without it fall over .
The experiment was underway . For a week , I have recorded the temperature inside and exterior of the Wall O ’ piss with a pocket-sized plastic thermometer , once in the good morning and again in the even . The chart below illustrates the effect . In a word , WOW !

The temperature in spite of appearance was consistently 4 - 6 degrees Fahrenheit higher than outside . Plus , it screen the plant from the biting wind .
Friday nighttime was the ultimate run . It was expected to be in the upper 20 ’s by Saturday dawn , and by now much of the other yearly flowers and herbs I have in my beds have gotten severely damaged .
All bundled up , I walked out to the Wall O ’ Waters other Saturday sunup to find the water in most of the chambers frozen . Yes , FROZEN . To my amazement , both plants were undamaged .

So , I am confident . These affair are for real ! I ’m gon na keep watching what happens and making note of number . Now all I have to do is adjust my semen - starting schedule to appropriate for this newly - gained growing prison term . This is VERY exciting . It seems that the amount of time we have down here before it experience oppressively blistering has decreased noticeably in the last few years . Being capable to add a few week to the growing time of year , as the Cartesian product publicize , will be huge .
- number are degree Fahrenheit
As I get more experient using the Wall O ’ water , I ’ll post my findings .
