Jamie and Her Garden, Sitting in a Tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G
I was invited by agarden clublast fall ( shout out to the Ackworth Garden Club ! ) to speak at their Autumn Fest about the funny garden stuff I talk about in this column . The day was filled with knowledgeable speakers who were far more qualified experts in gardening than I , so naturally , I bring as many notes as I could . Thanks to Barry , the tree diagram expert , I have a tilt of 20 shrubs and Tree I take to talk my husband into planting , which could be tricky since my yard is already quite full of plants and trees and on the shady side . I also learned how to better care formy houseplant , plus some enthralling fact about constituent farm - to - table gardening . I was high on raw information ! Over luncheon , I come to this profound determination .
Every single person in the room loved gardening . Like really , really loved it .
Whether it was their Book of Job to train the average Jamie on which trees would thrive in a shady blank space or if they just dabbled in their backyard gardens like me , every attendee loved what they were doing . It was a pleasure to get together with other gardener , watch from each other , speak about our gardens and ultimately become better gardeners . On my way home , I cerebrate about what exactly I love about gardening so much .

On the simplest degree , I enjoy being barefoot , outside , in the sun , peculiarly in the other days of summertime when the mornings are cool , and everything is young and unripe . strong soil in my hands as I choose my favorite yearly to meet my patio planter . The first delicate bud on the lilac . The first bees of the season abuzz around the apple efflorescence . When the garden comes alive with people of color as the summer mouse by .
But it ’s more than that .
Making bracing salsa or zucchini bread from vegetables I picked from my garden take me with overwhelming satisfaction . Green beans straight from the garden and sautéed in a bit of olive crude oil and garlic is one of the most perfect meals one could make . I take almost as much pride in uprise abeautiful tomatoor brain of Brassica oleracea italica as I do in my parenting abilities . ( Is that weird ? ) Maybe it ’s the acquirement of taking something from commencement to finish , from seed to full - grown plant ? Maybe eff I would have a proficient chance of surviving a zombie apocalypse because I can grow my own nutrient ? mayhap a little of both .

If you have a go at it gardening too , and of track you do if you readGarden GateMagazine , I extremely urge finding a garden grouping to join or attending a garden program in your area !
Tell them about what you ’re doing in your backyard and watch your new admirer ’s eyes light up . Listen to someone sing about the heirloom ejaculate you just have to imbed next year and get the fluttery touch sensation in your chest of drawers like you ’re falling in love for the first time . And if you see me at one of your garden clubs , be certain to get over and bring out yourself and let ’s swap garden story .
When Jamie is n’t perfecting her garden stand - up comedy routine to take on the Garden Club circuit , she is believably wandering her favorite antique memory board on the hunt club for vintage aprons or old telephones to add to her collection .
