I can still commend seeing this beauty for the first time . Kris Bachtell , the introducer of the flora , opened the nursery door that day like a banker start the threshold to a vault full of cold hard John Cash . Inside were only a few little , new potted industrial plant — the first of their kind . This was a couple of years before the cultivar even hit the market , but the sapling looked stunning with their crisp , clear gold leaves glowing in the morning light . Right then and there I bed I had to get one at any monetary value — but of course Kris could n’t part with a single plant life . So like a kid in a confect store without a penny in his air hole , I walked out empty - handed . Although a bit disappointed , I was thrilled to discover such a treasure and determined to get one for my garden as soon as potential .
A couple of years by and by I finally had a plant in hand , and I care for it like amber . I cautiously get up a planting trap for the gal - sized root chunk beneath the boughs of a fledged pine that provide the unadulterated partial shade for my golden baby to get — and spring up it did . I was amazed at the growth rate of Gold Bullion ™ , since many gold - foliaged plant are sluggish , lacking the full full complement of growth - producing chlorophyl of their green counterparts . Within three years I had a 6 - to-8 - groundwork - tall - and - wide graciously tiered tree diagram that radiate in the shade of the pine tree . My taste in plants leans to immature most of the time , but I do like a little sprinkle of Au here and there , and Gold Bullion ™ pagoda dogwood will always remain a bright blot in my garden .
